What Should You Wear in Rovaniemi in Winter, and Which Tours Hand You the Gear?
Updated October 17, 2026 · 5 min read
Book a tour that names its gear on the listing, and rent clothing only for the hours you spend walking around on your own. The winter clothing set rental costs €46 per person and covers adults and children. For a full day outdoors, the Korouoma hike, the new-model snowmobile safari and the ice-fishing trip each name thermal overalls or gear in their description, which is a better sign than a tour that says nothing.
Five offers and what they say about clothing
| Offer | What the listing names | Time | From | Rating |

| Korouoma Canyon frozen waterfalls hike | Thermal overalls, hot drinks, barbecue | 7 hours | €69.52 | 4.9 (1,665) |
| Arctic safari on new snowmobiles | “Premium gear”, max. 5 snowmobiles per guide | 3 hours | €119 | 4.7 (2,288) |
| Northern lights snowmobile tour | “Full gear”, transfers in 4×4 vans | 4 hours | €159 | 4.5 (64) |

The rental: for the hours between tours
The rental description is about walking through snowy streets, not about a specific excursion. It includes snow boots, mittens and a tube scarf next to the waterproof, windproof outfit. If you arrive with a city coat and sneakers and plan a day around Santa Claus Village on foot, €46 per person is a cheaper fix than buying boots you will wear once. If your whole stay is built around tours that issue overalls, you may not need it at all.

Korouoma: the clearest promise
Korouoma is the tour where the clothing question matters most: seven hours, mostly outside, with a barbecue as the main break. The listing names thermal overalls, hot drinks and a wilderness barbecue, and it is the best-rated of the five. It does not list boots or gloves in that short description, so read the full list of inclusions before you decide what to wear underneath. Our Korouoma comparison covers the trail itself.

Snowmobiles and ice fishing
Both snowmobile listings in the table speak of gear (“premium” on the three-hour safari, “full” on the four-hour night tour) without saying what is in it. Treat that as a reason to ask or read the inclusions, not as proof that helmet, boots and gloves are covered. The ice-fishing trip is the most specific: thermal overalls and all equipment, though only 18 guests have rated it. A different snowmobile product, the plain two-hour ride, and the stand-alone reindeer trip say nothing about clothing in their short descriptions, so assume nothing there.

Where you actually get cold
Overalls solve moving through the cold; they do not solve standing in it. A northern lights hunt means long stretches on a frozen lake or a roadside, and the operators plan for it: the €52 lake-side hunt promises a campfire, a barbecue and hot berry drinks, and the short husky ride ends with hot juice in a yurt. Wear your own warm layers under whatever is lent to you, and keep hands and feet in mind first, because those are what end an evening early. Children need the same planning; our guide to Rovaniemi with children says what they tolerate. For which months are coldest and darkest, see the best time to visit.
What we would do
Take the Korouoma hike as your big outdoor day because it names the overalls, and add the rental only if you also want to wander town or the village without your own boots. Skip it if every activity you booked says the gear is provided. Not sure what else to book? The things to do page sorts it by activity.
