Snowshoeing from Rovaniemi: Short Walk, Wild Lunch or Ice Fishing?
Updated October 13, 2026 · 5 min read
Snowshoeing is among the quietest things you can book in Rovaniemi, and the rules on who may join differ more than you would expect. According to their booking pages, the four tours below all run for three to four hours including pickup, but one excludes children under 8, another under 9, and one asks only that under-12s come with a paying adult. Read that line first.

Who may join
- Children: according to the booking pages, the barbecue tour asks that children under 12 come with a paying adult. The teepee lunch tour lists children under 8 as not suitable, and the flint-and-steel tour lists children under 9.
- Back problems: named as not suitable on the flint-and-steel tour.
- Wheelchair users: listed as not suitable on all four tours, and people with mobility impairments on the teepee lunch tour.
- Minimum numbers: the barbecue tour needs two people on weekdays and Saturdays and four on Sundays and public holidays, and it may be cancelled or rescheduled with a full refund if the minimum is not met. The flint-and-steel tour needs two paying adults.
What is actually included
The booking pages put the included and the excluded items in one list, so it is easy to misread them.
- The barbecue tour includes snowshoes, winter overalls and boots, the campfire barbecue and pickup within 10 km of the centre.
- The flint-and-steel tour is contradictory: one list names winter overall and boots as included, a note says overall and boots are not included. Ask the operator before you count on them, and take your own warm layers.
- The ice-fishing tour includes equipment, winter clothing, a campfire snack and pickup, which per the page covers only accommodation outside the city centre. Lunch and alcohol are not included. It drives 20 km north of Rovaniemi and then walks 2 km across a frozen lake, so expect a walk over the ice.
- The teepee lunch tour drives about 30 km out of town, with winter clothes and a wild lunch included.
Which one fits
A first walk with a barbecue. The barbecue tour has by far the most reviews. One reviewer calls it doable for almost anyone, though some stretches are more challenging.
A proper lunch. The teepee tour at €75 is the cheapest of the four and is rated 4.9, but only 65 people have reviewed it.
More to do than walk. Snowshoeing with ice fishing stretches to four hours, with up to eight guests and 15 pickup points. Its page says it runs in all weather conditions, including extreme cold.
Not for you if you want speed or a workout in the snow. This is a slow walk with stops, and the page for the barbecue tour describes it as suitable for people who are not sporty.
What we would book
For most visitors: the barbecue tour, €105, 4.4 from 805 reviews. If you want something quieter and cheaper, take the teepee lunch tour.
All tours on foot are on the snowshoeing and skiing page. For ice fishing on a snowmobile, see the snowmobile safari guide.
